2008 is FAWWA's 70th anniversary. Don't let it be our last!

FAWWA is a non-profit organisation. Funds come from memberships, grants and writing activities. A substantial amount of FAWWA' funds normally come from a grant from the WA Department of Culture and the Arts (DCA); however, the Fellowship did not receive its grant for 2007-2008. The impact on the organisation has been substantial: we had no funds to continue our part-time administrator; there was very little funding to conduct our Jan-July program and it has been difficult to grow the Fellowship.

Volunteers swung into action and quickly raised $8000 through fundraising and donations. FAWWA rallied and managed to keep the lights on.

The second half of 2008 looks more promising: DCA has granted half of the funds requested in our February application and we will now be able to hold:

• Three writers in residence
• At least ten full workshops

Nevertheless, the difficulties are not over. The stress of running an organisation solely on volunteer input has seen our committee diminish and our volunteers become overburdened. But bold new plans to restructure our management and revitalise our mission will herald a new phase in FAWWA's evolution.
