Writing Group for 12-17 year olds

WordWired
4:30 pm, Monday - Tom Collins House
$10 per session. Term 1 2010 will be $70 for a 7 week term beginning Monday 8 February.
There will be no class on the Labour Day Holiday, March 1st.

Young writers! Scrabble under your bed for a pen and some paper and run down to Tom Collins House every Monday afternoon during school terms. Make like-minded friends while you develop your way with words and feed your creative genius. Discover ideas in strange places, build plots that twist and turn sideways, create characters that leap out of the page and settings that teleport your readers into other worlds. Challenge your imagination while you write short stories, poetry, songs, scripts for film, theatre and comics, and anything else that takes the group's fancy. Whatever you're into, WordWired is a young word artist's feast!

The content of each session evolves around the needs and desires of the group.

Karen Dixon

Write.

Sometimes it’s difficult to get ideas down on paper. A new course beginning at FAWWA’s Tom Collins house is about to change that. Perth writer Karen Dixon is offering a six session introductory exploration into the possibilities of creative writing. Using props, stimuli and a kitbag of writing tools and techniques, the course is designed to help the beginner or experienced writer unlock creativity. "By the end of the course, participants will have written a piece of fiction they can be proud of, and hopefully learned some tricks to avoid pitfalls like writer’s block," said Karen.

Called simply "write.", the course is a helpful introduction for those wishing to participate in the new courses and groups FAWWA is offering in 2010. Karen Dixon writes fiction, freelance commercial writing and teaches high school workshops. She insists, "Many of us learned at school that writing is boring and hard work. This course is about discovering that writing can be fun, an adventure."

"Write." runs at the Heritage Listed Tom Collins House at 88 Wood St in Swanbourne (next to Allen Park). On Mondays from 10 till 12 from 22 February to 29 March, 9384 4771 or Email: admin@fawwa.org.au for details.

Cost per session: $30 for members, $45 for non members.
Cost full course: Early bird special is $150 for members and $250 for non members.

Run a Workshop or Group

If you wish to run a workshop or regular group at Tom Collins House (of any type; it doesn’t have to be related to writing), the Fellowship would be interested under the following conditions:

FAWWA would promote the workshop/group in its brochure (when possible) and through other avenues such as the FAWWA web-site. We would expect the workshop presenter to undertake the principal promotion for the event.

FAWWA would take bookings but expect the presenter’s contact details to be available for bookings as well.

Fees for the workshop/group should be set after discussion with the administrator at FAWWA, and a discount allowed for FAWWA members. The presenter will retain all fees collected less payments due to FAWWA for room hire. The current rate for this is $15 per hour.

Presenters should also provide refreshments for the participants. For a full day workshop participants should be advised to bring their own lunch. Contact us to discuss your ideas.
