Expressions of Interested Invited for 2009 QLD Poetry Festival

The 2009 Queensland Poetry Festival (QPF) invites proposals from poets and other performers and artists interested in being part of the 13th Annual Queensland Poetry Festival:spoken in one strange word, to be staged at The Judith Wright Centre of Contemporary Arts, August 21 - 23.

QPF would like to hear from both individuals and groups for single performances at the Festival and for other projects in association with the Festival. While all projects should have a relationship to poetic language, we encourage applications from non-poets wishing to explore the relationship between poetry and other art forms (e.g. performances with a music and/or multi-media focus etc).

For full submission guidelines visit www.queenslandpoetryfestival.com

If you have any questions regarding your submission please don’t hesitate in contacting Festival Director, Julie Beveridge at julesbev@yahoo.com.au.

Extant: A Literary Press

This new, Perth-based press with a focus on producing experimental poetry. Extant’s editorial vision is to enrich and advance the tradition of experimental literature in Australia. All manuscripts are evaluated for their artistic, poetic and thematic vision and their ability to contribute to the conversation about experimental literature. The editors will be looking for each manuscript to display an awareness of the poetic traditions that precede it, and to utilise their poetic thoughts and devices toward ends which represent their own philosophical, poetic, and aesthetic movements. Extant Press will present a grouping of alternative and experimental voices of Australian poetry so as to further the discussions which are responsible for the progression of experimental literature.

The mandate of Extant is to:

  • Provide an opportunity for established writers to publish experimental works which may fall outside mainstream publishing options.
  • To continue the tradition of experimental literature by stimulating the creation of new books and creating an experimental community around whom these books and ideas may flourish.
  • Publish innovative poetries, innovative engagements with language, innovative poetic theory, and innovative writers, both emerging and experienced.

Queries and chapbook sized submissions (of 20-48 pages) can be emailed in Word or .rtf format to ExtantEditor@gmail.com
